Randy Jones plays guitar and sings lead, tenor, and baritone vocals with Kentucky Wind and is involved in writing and co-writing some of the bands original material. His dad, Lonnie plays guitar and began to teach Randy mandolin at age eight. Randy started playing guitar for his own amusement at age ten but continued playing mandolin in his dad's band, The Southfork Gentlemen until age 20. He then joined Larry Sparks and the Lonesome Ramblers for about a year. In August 2002, Randy began thinking about putting his own band together but failed at several attempts to find a guitarist and lead singer. He then started talking with some former members of Kentucky Wind and they decided to re-organize the band. Randy's bluegrass influences range from Bill Monroe, The Stanley Brothers, The Country Gentlemen and The Osborne Brothers to Tony Rice, Ricky Skaggs and the Newgrass Revival. He makes his home in Strunk, Kentucky where he works as a recording engineer. You can hear Randy's engineering/mixing skill featured on Kentucky Wind's new CD, Future Of The Past.
Anthony Taylor plays mandolin and sings high lead, and tenor with the band. Mostly self- taught he also plays guitar, and fiddle and writes some of Kentucky Winds original material. Previously, Anthony played with several bands such as Southfork Station, Clear Creek, and Clear View. Artists such as Doyle Lawson And Quicksilver, lllrd Tyme Out, Lonesome River Band, and Alison Krauss and Union Station influenced him. According to Anthony his greatest reward in playing bluegrass music is the fans " because they treat you, like one of the family". Anthony makes his home in Strunk, Kentucky just down the road from the rest of the band.
Ed Gilreath plays banjo and sings lead and baritone with Kentucky Wind. He gives credit to his dad for teaching him the banjo, and to his grandfather for loving the music so much. Ed grew up picking banjo with his dad, so there was a lot of music around the house. If you listen, you can tell that such artists as JD Crowe, Terry Baucom, and Earl Scruggs influenced him. He also loves great harmony, and was influenced by such greats as Doyle Lawson and Quicksilver, lllrd Tyme Out, and The Lonesome River Band. Ed makes his home in Strunk, Kentucky, just a few miles from the rest of Kentucky Wind
Sandy Gerken plays stand-up bass with Kentucky Wind. He started at age 15 playing the guitar, and by age 16 he had found his instrument, the doghouse bass. Sandy owes his love for bluegrass music to his father and mother, who promoted it for several years. The Glass City Bluegrass Festival of Toledo, Ohio ran for 7 years before being sold, to its more recent owners. Sandy has played with several bands though the years, including LB Siler and the Round Mountain Boys, Southfork Station, and the Southfork Gentlemen. Sandy says that his main influences throughout the years have been artists such as the Country Gentlemen, Knoxville Grass, and the Newgrass Revival. Sandy makes his home in Strunk, Kentucky just down the road from the rest of the band. |
